Expedition MS is a global sailing initiative that uses adventure, storytelling, and community engagement to raise awareness and funding for Multiple Sclerosis research and direct support. We're creating a multi-year sailing expedition that will visit dozens of ports worldwide, offering accessible sailing experiences, documenting personal stories of resilience from the MS community, and building a global support network for individuals and families affected by MS, particularly Progressive MS.
Expedition MS was founded by Duff Archie, inspired by his father Tim's 20-year journey with Primary Progressive MS. Tim's humor, grit, and grace in the face of the devastating disease shaped the values behind this initiative. Today, we're building on that legacy to confront the $88 billion annual cost MS places on individuals and families, and to change how the world understands and supports this disease.
Through partnerships with Echo Bay Media (creators of the Emmy-nominated series My Pacific Quest and Departures), marine industry leaders, and MS advocacy organizations, we're creating high-quality documentary content, immersive virtual experiences, and community events that bring the mission to millions globally.
Current Status: Expedition MS is in active development, securing partnerships, planning our first expeditions, and building our community. We're preparing to launch publicly in 2026.

Sailing isn't just an adventure—it's a powerful therapeutic tool backed by peer-reviewed research. The first-ever circumnavigation by people with MS (Oceans of Hope, 2014-2017) documented significant improvements in depression, quality of life, self-esteem, and social support among 94 participants from 16 countries. Studies published in Disability and Rehabilitation showed measurable reductions in anxiety and stress, alongside increased empowerment and life satisfaction.
Sailing teaches resilience in a way few experiences can. Managing unpredictable conditions, working as a crew, problem-solving under pressure, and navigating long journeys mirror the challenges people with MS face every day. It's a metaphor made real, and the lessons translate directly to managing a chronic illness with patience, adaptability, and determination.
Expedition MS takes this further by making sailing genuinely accessible. We're not asking people with MS to climb aboard traditional boats and "tough it out." We're creating adaptive experiences—think accessible boarding systems, stability-focused catamarans, safety-first protocols, and crew trained in disability inclusion. At each port, we'll offer day sails, workshops, and respite experiences for individuals with MS and their caregivers.
For those who can't physically join us: We're exploring the use of 360-degree cameras and VR technology to create immersive experiences that let anyone feel like they're already there—on the bow, in the cockpit, navigating real oceans. This is about vicarious empowerment, not exclusion.
